Alpha House Calderdale is looking for YOUR help
We would be extremely grateful for any financial help to support this project
Our Latest Project
Our Acute Unit containing 7 apartments has a large unused basement. The work we would like to do is to convert the space into a communal area to be used for communal cooking and eating, watching TV, board games, family visits and “house meetings”. With the aim of reducing isolation and encouraging shared learning as the result of our Neurodiversity interventions.
Currently the space is derelict, and the previous occupier clearly used it simply for storage. It will need a complete renovation to make it suitable for use.
Impact support would have
Our Neurodiversity programme for those with ADHD, PTSD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Acute Anxiety will benefit from having the use of this communal space.
A few statistics
- 1 in 3 males in the criminal justice system are believed to be neurodiverse
- Around 30% of the prison population are dyslexic
- More than 310,000 adults accessed treatment for issues related to drug addiction or alcohol use and ADHD in a single year (2024/25 MoJ)
Our figures for improved mental health, cessation of offending and abstinence from drugs/alcohol are exceptional, however, those with neurodiverse issues need additional support to enable them to thrive and achieve their potential. Having the basement converted for their use will greatly improve their quality of life and provide a safe leisure space to prevent isolation and help to support one another.
Our Proposed New Venture
We are looking for funding to convert the basement space into a Day-Room for our residents to use and enjoy time toghether
Please see the pictures below of the space we are wanting to renovate
